Headteacher's Welcome

Hello and welcome to Bickerstaffe CE Primary School. My name is Maggie Teachen and as Headteacher, it gives me enormous pleasure to introduce you to our school, which has been established in our community since 1844.

We are a small Church school, nestled in the heart of Bickerstaffe village.  At present, our family consists of 73 pupils organised within four well-appointed classrooms. We have excellent links with Holy Trinity Church and the local community. We are very fortunate to have a close relationship with Rev Andrew, whose weekly visits are much anticipated and appreciated.  We hold monthly Communion Services for the local community, which are led by the children.  This provides a special opportunity for tranquillity and a moment for reflection.

Our children are our inspiration and are at the centre of everything that we do.  They are well-behaved, polite and respectful and are an absolute pleasure to teach.  Our small size enables us to ensure that learning is personalised and tailored to meet children’s individual needs.  We provide a vibrant and exciting curriculum to ignite our pupils’ passion to learn.

Staff and Governors are one of our greatest assets: they are professional, dedicated and hardworking, always going that extra mile for our children.  This has been recognised by our latest 2014 Ofsted Inspection which was ‘Good’ and our SIAMs Inspection which was rated as ‘Outstanding’, also in 2014.  Our results are above National Averages and exceed this in many. As a team, we ensure Bickerstaffe CE School is everything a primary should be: fun; exciting; nurturing and aspirational.  We don’t know what career paths our children will choose in the future, but we endeavour to equip them with the skills needed, not only to make them happy and successful, but to go beyond that and exceed their expectations.

Afterschool we offer a range of opportunities for everybody, so that our pupils can keep fit, develop team work or simply have fun!  This includes singing in our choir or learning to play instruments.  There’s also Craft, Computing, Dance, Body Combat and Sports Activities on offer.

Pupils and staff have committed to the Daily Mile challenge by either running or walking each day on our purpose-built track, whatever the weather!  We are immensely proud to add that we have a twice weekly, before-school Running Club which is well-attended by pupils, parents and staff.

Pupils benefit from the use of an ICT suite, Forest School area and extensive, well-equipped playgrounds which boast a dedicated football/basketball area, table tennis and games area, running track and Peace Garden.

Did I mention the chickens?  We have six fabulous chickens who are very much part of our family.  They are situated beside our running track and are well looked after by the children from our Eco Council.  Their eggs are collected and sold at tuck shop on a Friday.  And I can’t forget to tell you to make sure you have a look at the Juicy Word on our News page too.  Our editorial team work extremely hard to create a glossy, professional, must-read school magazine.  It’s simply brilliant!

If you are looking for a place for your child, don't just take my word for it, make an appointment and come and see all these wonderful things for yourself.  You won’t be disappointed 😊 Thank you for visiting our website.  We hope to see you soon.
